BIOMASS BOILERS AND THE NDRHI
Biomass boilers can be a valuable business asset reducing the business dependency on fossil fuels as well as providing carbon reductions.
The government created the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme to to encourage the uptake of this environmentally friendly resource. It was understood that businesses, may change, move, or stop trading. In order to ensure that the biomass installed was not then decommissioned before the end of its life, the scheme was designed so that it could instead be sold and/or moved. When a used biomass boiler is sold or moved, the tariff remains the same as it was at the time of the original installation.
While purchasing a second hand biomass boiler can have financial advantages such as shorter payback periods and higher returns on investment, there are also some drawbacks to consider. These may include higher installation costs, a potentially shorter lifespan of the equipment, the need for decommissioning work, and a limited availability of second hand systems. New systems come with a manufacturer warranty, which may have expired or be non-transferable to your site.
Your Energy Source specializes in administrative process required to move your RHI biomass boiler. We have completed over 2500 RHI projects so with us you have the peace of mind that you will RHI experts are ensuring your best possible chance of installing the boiler and getting the RHI.
In some cases, it may be more financially advantageous for a new project to consider purchasing a second hand biomass boiler with a higher tariff rather than a new one, especially if the RHI payments were higher at the start of the scheme. For the seller, this allows them to sell the system at a higher price due to the transferred tariff.
CHP, ND RHI AND RENEWABLE OBLIGATIONS
Second hand Combined Heat and Power systems have often qualified for 2 tariffs, the Renewable Heat Incentive and the Renewable Obligations. As with Biomass the RHI is transferable to new owners and new locations. The renewable obligations in some cases is also transferable in a similar manor. Please contact us for more details and we can help you through the process.
